Digital Form Finding

Concept:
This project, defined as a hybrid architecture, captures the process of form finding for cocoon inspired form, a pupalcasing made by moth caterpillars. Since caterpillar experiences three forms of life in this evolution, the geometric form has been set for tree variations.

Design:
This design is an architecture ornament that works as a decorative panel for redirecting the air flow. Through the design of algorithms, the geometric form was investigated and developed. The form is generated from points and triangulated surfaces that connect the structure within an algorithm. The algorithm is designed to provide the control over the parameters related to structure, inner space and exterior surface.

Techniques Used:
Parametric modeling: Rhino and Grasshopper
3D Rendering: VRay and 3DS Max
Digital fabrication: Laser cutting
